How Wisetack Helps Texas Slab Guys Turn Sticker Shock Into Signed Jobs

Texas Slab Guys is a residential and commercial concrete contractor based in Texas, now in its second year of business. Owner Jeff Price runs the company on a general contractor model with a lean team of three.

Most of what Texas Slab Guys builds falls into one of three buckets, according to Jeff: safety fixes (tripping hazards and other dangerous conditions), aesthetic upgrades for homeowners who want a nicer-looking property, and commercial jobs tied to real estate development. Together, those three reasons account for 85–90% of the company's projects. The work itself splits between tearing out and replacing old concrete and repairing existing slabs with concrete leveling techniques.

Job sizes vary widely by type: repairs typically run $5,000–$20,000, while new builds — like a driveway or a metal building slab — can run $30,000–$75,000.

The challenge: limited payment options

Before Wisetack, Texas Slab Guys didn't have a financing option at all. Payment was cash, in full. If a customer balked at the price and wanted to put a job on a credit card instead, Jeff didn't have a good answer for that.

Jeff isn't new to Wisetack — he'd used it in a previous business in the home services space and liked it enough to bring it with him. Today, when a quote comes in higher than a customer expected, Wisetack is his only financing partner.

How Wisetack fits in

Jeff runs his own software company and built the systems Texas Slab Guys uses to run its business — so it's notable that when it comes to financing, he works directly out of the Wisetack merchant portal rather than building anything custom. His standard payment structure calls for 20% down at signing, with Wisetack financing the remaining 80% of the job. That split means a signed contract doesn't depend on the customer having the full project cost on hand: the down payment gets the job started, and Wisetack covers the balance, closing the gap between what a customer can pay up front and what the job actually costs.

The results: securing jobs that would have been lost without financing

Since starting with Wisetack, Jeff has used it to secure financing for 15% of customers. To add to that, Jeff acknowledges that financing has helped him save jobs. "I know at least two of these jobs would not have closed unless financing was available," Jeff said. Wisetack has given him a way to keep price-sensitive customers moving forward without accepting credit cards.

Jeff also pointed to a broader business reason for choosing Wisetack over credit cards: chargeback risk. "If you're a contractor that doesn't want to offer credit cards because of chargebacks, financing with Wisetack's a great offering," he said.

That view comes from real experience in the payments space — Jeff also has a background in earned wage access and is familiar with how buy-now-pay-later models work. His take: financing programs that partner with merchants, rather than going direct-to-consumer, tend to see better loan quality and volume.

Looking ahead

Jeff has ambitions to grow into bigger-ticket work — particularly metal building slabs in the $50,000–$70,000 range, a category he's begun marketing in non-metro parts of Texas, more than 100 miles outside any major city. He believes he's positioned to become the go-to slab builder for that niche, in part because no other concrete provider in those areas currently offers financing at all.

As he builds out that side of the business over the next six months — alongside larger driveway projects — Jeff sees Wisetack as part of how he gets there: a financing partner that can grow with him as his average job size climbs, rather than something he'll have to rethink once he's chasing bigger contracts.

Jeff's advice to other contractors

"Wisetack has helped me close more business. There’s great value in me being able to sell more. If you're a contractor that doesn't want to offer credit cards because of chargebacks, financing through Wisetack's a great offering."
