“Wisetack’s mission is clear, and the team is hungry to build,” said Mark Peters, Wisetack’s new VP of Risk. “It’s rare to find a company that moves fast and still puts so much care into its people, its product, and its partners.”
After years in senior leadership roles at Synchrony and GE Capital, Mark is bringing his love for finance — and his sharp eye for credit and analytics — to Wisetack. As Wisetack’s VP of Risk, he’ll help scale the company’s credit organization and build smarter, more efficient systems for decision-making.
Mark first connected with Wisetack three years ago while working at Openpay. The timing wasn’t quite right then, but he stayed in touch with Wisetack’s founders. When the opportunity resurfaced, he jumped at it, meeting six team members in just two days.
“From the very first conversations, I was blown away by the caliber of Wisetack’s leadership,” he said. “Their vision, command of capital markets, financial depth — it all gave me a ton of confidence in the business and the people behind it.”
That experience, combined with the company’s speed and clarity, sealed the deal. “I was impressed,” Mark said. “It’s a rare combination.”
He’s also energized by the chance to compete with the legacy consumer financing institutions he knows well. “They’re like boulders rolling downhill,” he said. “Powerful, but not agile. We can be both smarter and faster.”
Mark is especially energized by Wisetack’s team and culture.
“It’s a group that wants to grow, and that’s the kind of environment I love,” he said. He brings a passion for mentoring and a thoughtful approach to building risk infrastructure that can scale with the business, without unnecessary complexity.
“I’ve worked in large organizations and lean ones,” Mark said. “At Wisetack, I saw the opportunity to make an immediate impact, and to help a strong team do even more.”
He’s also excited to mentor a growing team. “This is a group that wants to learn. I love that,” Mark said.
He’s not interested in managing through layers. He plans to stay close to the work, close to the team, and help people grow.
Mark lives in the Cincinnati area, though he spent several years in San Francisco early in his career. He and his wife — who also works in statistics — raised their family in Ohio. “We actually met through data,” he joked. “It’s kind of fitting.”
Please join us in welcoming Mark to the Wisetack team!
